Class Descriptions

  • “Creative Movement”: This is a 30-minute class consisting of Ballet and Tap basics featuring creative song and dance and movement concepts.

  • “Tap”: This class is dedicated to the student that wants to explore tap dancing in all of its elements. It consists of tap technique, rhythm tap, across the floor steps, turns, and combinations and routines.

  • “Advanced Tap”: Students must have prior permission by Miss Susan to enroll in this class.

  • “Hip-Hop 101”: (ages 6 & up) This class will explore the most current popular dance moves and will focus on fast moving, funky, and free-style hip hop steps.

  • “Hip-Hop 102”: This class is for the intermediate dancer that has had at least 1-2 years of hip-hop experience.

  • “Hip-Hop 103”: This class is for the more seasoned hip-hop dancer and must be at least 11 years of age.

  • “Hip-Hop 201”: This class is for those that have had at least 3 years of hip hop and is by placement only.

  • “Off Broadway Ballet Program” (Note: all students wishing to participate in the OB ballet program must have placement decided by Miss Susan)

  • Ballet 1 - a beginning ballet student or for those that have had only one year of prior experience in a strictly ballet class.

    Ballet 2 - a ballet student that has had at least 2 years of prior experience in strictly ballet studies (combination classes previously taken do not count as “strictly ballet”).

    Ballet 3/Pre-pointe/Pointe 1 - a ballet student that has had at least 3-4 years of ballet studies and is ready for/has begun pointe dancing.

    Ballet 4/Pointe - a ballet student that has had at least 5 years of ballet studies and is currently dancing on pointe.

  • “Intermediate Jazz”: This class is for children ages 9 & up with at least 2 years of previous Jazz experience. Students will learn stretching and strengthening, terminology, leaps and turns, across the floor progressions, and intricate combinations/choreography.

  • “Advanced Jazz”: Students must have a minimum of 4 years previous Jazz experience. Students will learn various styles of jazz dancing including traditional jazz, lyrical, as well as theater/character. Lessons are taught at a more accelerated level and “outside of the studio” practice time and dedication is mandatory. Placement by Miss Susan only.

  • “Contemporary/Lyrical”: This form of dance includes isolations, abstract movement, and music interpretation. It is based on ballet with jazz influences.

  • “Competition Classes and Teams”: (audition mandatory) These classes will consist of technique and choreography for competitions, shows, and community outreach. There will be a separate meeting for those of you wishing to audition for this opportunity. There is no discount or pro-rated fees for this class and regular attendance to both technique and competition classes is required.
